Ceylon 1857 great Old time collection $10,000 + An interesting and valuable old time collection comprised of some 55 mostly used stamps neatly mounted on four quadrille pages and priced at a time in England when shillings and pence were the currency. We noted many better items and scarcer shades or perforation varieties but of particular we noted a few exceptional items such as on page 1: a very scarce plate proof pair of the very rare (SG 1) the 6 p on blued paper (tiny scissor nick in top right margin of second stamp otherwise VF, also 2 very good examples of the 10d (SG9) one only average but the other a superb 4 good margined example without faults, also a VF and sound example of the rare 2s blue (SG 12)- tiny 1 mm sealed edge nick in upper left corner, otherwise fault free and VF (1200 pounds), and an excellent and completely sound example of the very scarce 1s 9p green (small corner fault at top right corner well away from the design otherwise VF and fault free (800 pounds) - to name but a few. This is truly an interesting and valuable lot for the specialist with most of the stamps being sound of VF appearance and without hidden faults: all in all a great little lot and one that is in much better than usual condition. Estimated catalog by SG to be in excess of 5,000 pounds some $10,000 – possibly much more.
