Description
Postal History Fantastic and historic 2 page stampless folded letter written April 10, 1840 by Robert and Ann Adams at Pine Grove Post Office, Vaughan, CANADA WEST and sent to (Mr or William?) Donial Stump in Union Township, Goshen Post Office, Elkhart County, Indiana. Robert Adams writes an amazing letter about the growth of PLANK ROADS in his part of Canada - providing specific routes from points like taverns to intersections, small villages etc.... and relates all of this to their lives as wheat farmers. We've provided full size scans - but a local historian will have a field day! Here's a link that provides more information about PINE GROVE - the specific origin of this letter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_Grove%2C_Regional_Municipality_of_York%2C_Ontario The writer lists the return address as Canada West, although the postmark shows Vaughan as U.C. (Upper Canada). Pine Grove and Vaughan are both in Ontario. The letter transited, CROSS BORDER at Lewistown, New York before making its way to Indiana. There's also a Toronto L.C. (Lower Canada) marking. Letter is fully intact and in excellent condition. A wonderful find indeed!!!!. Terms Buyer pays $1.50 in the United States and Canada, and $2.50 elsewhere. We combine postage for multiple purchases. Postal insurance extra. We are not responsible for lost or uninsured packages. We much prefer checks or money orders but will accept paypal. We're members of the American Philatelic Society. We've been selling on eBay since July 1998 and are proud to be powersellers! BID WITH CONFIDENCE!
